Västernorrland is in the heart of Sweden and the centre of the Nordic region and consists of two provinces: Medelpad and Ångermanland. We are a diverse county full of possibilities. In an area covering nearly 22,000 square kilometers, you´ll find wonderful natural and cultural attractions with three wild rivers, enchanted forests, spectacular countryside recognized as a world heritage site because of its unique rising land, and pleasant city life. We host a large number of sporting activities and are home to Sweden´s newest university. Västernorrland is also a county with a strong and stable commercial sector that produces some of the best goods and services in the country and that is based on our strong industrial tradition. The area with the highest concentrati on of stone carvings is in Näsåker, Sollefteå. So far, 2000 carvings have been found, the oldest of which is close to 6000 years old.
